HEY! New letters column today! A couple of Lucky Penny related-questions today.

i missed the cuttings kickstarter, where can i get it? i can't get to a convention.

We're currently kickstarting Lucky Penny and CUTTINGS is available as part of some tiers. Both the regular and limited editions are available. A signed bookplate is also available as an option.

I LOVE PENNYS COLLECTION!!!! is it going to be in the penny book???????

Sadly no! The timing won't work out– Penny's Collection is going to run past the time we plan to get Lucky Penny to the printer. HOWEVER a PDF of Penny's collection where I lay it out in 2-page spreads... that may show up as some kind of kickstarter bonus. But shhh, that's a secret. Don't tell anyone!

Is Ananth going to write a longer version of any of the Penny's Collection pages? Because he should...

Yuko: YEAH

Ananth: Maybe... people have been saying nice stuff. SO MAYBE.... ?? Might be fun!

Video games this time!

Hey guys,

Playing any games right now? anything catch your eye at E3?

Ananth: Oh yeah! Yuko's burned through every route of Starfighter: Eclipse in about 3 days. She's mostly been playing Nekoatsume since then. I finished Dangan Ronpa 2 a little while ago. I play FF14 every once so often with some friends, and Yuko and I are still finishing up Dragon Age 2.

As far as E3, yes! Looking forward to the next Tomb Raider, and the trailer for Horizon Zero Dawn was really surprising and cool. And I didn't expect to an FF7 remake announcement so get me all nostalgic, but it did. My favorite thing about that is probably all the reaction videos.

Here we go:

Hi Yuko and Ananth!

I noticed that Cecilia from Girl with the Skeleton Hand was used as a character in Lucky Penny. What was the reason for that? Were there any other characters from other projects used as background characters in Penny? Thanks so much for sharing your work!

Haha... a lot. We had this idea about doing a Tezuka style star system (he used to use and reuse a roster of characters in a lot of his works)-- it seemed fun, but the thing we didn't realize was that Tezuka churned out a huge volume of work, and that kept his star system relevant. It was a tool for him, but it's not necessarily a great tool for us and I think we're going to avoid it in the future (for the most part).

As for the specific references-- I'm gonna keep it brief... I'm not a big fan of pointing this stuff out because it means talking about work that hasn't been made, and ideas are a dime a dozen. But anyway! Here we are:

The tattoo artist: is Jeph Jacques!

The lil punks: my buddies from DC, Mike, Joe and Archer

The D&D kids: friends, including Jamie, George and a character from Yuko's Fallen universe

Penny's imagination: Couple of characters from projects past & future. North appears in a lot of Yuko's tumblr art. Jayce from Applegeeks.

Walter's friends: Cecilia of Girl with the Skeleton Hand, Alice from Applegeeks, and Katherine is a character of Yuko's that started life as a Pokemon OC... an umbreon I think

Four Horsemen: Death from Girl with the Skeleton Hand, and a couple of characters from future stuff, including Dhio from Yuko's work on tumblr

That pretty much covers it!

Two short questions this time.

Dear yuko and ananth,

Are you guys going to SDCC this year?

Not this year! But we WILL be at NYCC:Special Edition with Topatoco this year (June 6-7, very soon!), and we'll have copies of CUTTINGS with us! Come by and say hey! It's looking to be a lot less hectic than the regular NYCC, which is great... more time to chat with you guys.

Does Yuko need more mugs? Where should we send cute mugs to? :D

Ananth: Hey Kim! Did you hear something? Anyway, Yuko doesn't need new mugs. Can we mail you some of hers? (The best way to give her mugs or anything else is probably to catch us at a show!)
